Protecting Your Submersible Water Pump from Damage

The PFA01 PumpFuse is designed to monitor and protect continuously running submersible water pumps used in ponds, fountains, waterfalls, koi ponds, and water circulation systems. By analyzing power consumption, the PFA01 can detect abnormal conditions such as dry running or blockages and take immediate action to safeguard your pump.

How it Works

1. Training Mode

1. • Upon installation or reset, the device enters Training Mode for 60 seconds.

   • During this phase, the pump operates normally while the device learns the average power consumption and sets thresholds to identify abnormal conditions.

   • The blue LED blinks to indicate the device is in training.

   • Once training is complete, the device automatically switches to Monitoring Mode.

2. Monitoring Mode
   
   

   • The device continuously monitors the pump’s power consumption in real time.

   • A steady blue LED indicates the pump is operating within normal parameters.

   • Power usage is checked against thresholds (average ± tolerances) established during Training Mode.

3. Abnormal Power Detection
   
   

   • The device identifies:

     • Underload Condition: Power usage significantly lower than normal (e.g., pump dry running).

     • Overload Condition: Power usage significantly higher than normal (e.g., blocked or failing pump).

4. Warning the User
   
   

   • If the device detects a sudden power drop or sudden power rise, it transitions into Warning Mode.

   • In Warning Mode:

     • The steady red LED to signal an abnormal condition.

   • If the issue persists for more than 30 seconds, the device transitions to one of the following:

     • Underload Condition → Red LED slow blinking (e.g., pump dry running).

     • Overload Condition → Red LED fast blinking (e.g., pump blocked or consuming excess power).

   • To prevent damage, the relay automatically switches off, disconnecting power from the pump.

5. Clearing the Warning
   
   

   • In Underload or Overload Mode (relay off, pump disconnected), the user can press the LED button once to clear the warning.

   • The device will then return to Monitoring Mode.

   • If the issue persists, the device will re-enter Warning Mode or Underload/Overload Mode as necessary.

6. Resetting the Device
   
   

   • After addressing the cause of the issue, press and hold the LED button for 7-10 seconds to reset the device.

   • The blue LED blinks as the device re-enters Training Mode and recalibrates thresholds.

Important Notes

• The PFA01 device is not waterproof and must be protected from rain and moisture.

• However, the device is compact (approximately 2 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall) and small enough to fit into a weatherproof enclosure for outdoor use.

Installation and Setup

1. Connect the PFA01 device between the power source and the pump.

2. Allow the pump to operate normally during Training Mode (indicated by blinking blue LED).

3. Monitor LED indicators for warnings or alerts.

Tip

If warnings are triggered too often and you believe they are false positives, you can always re-run Training Mode by resetting the device. This will update the thresholds based on the current pump performance and ensure more accurate detection.
